Civil Discourse Guidelines
Most of us misread why people on the other side think the way they do — we assume the worst without knowing the actual reasons. Assumptions is built to close that gap. These guidelines exist to keep this a place where curiosity beats contempt and disagreement actually builds understanding.
What We’re About
“Talk with intention, not reaction.” We want you to slow down, reflect, and engage with ideas—not with attacks or heat. The goal is to strengthen your ability to listen, reason, and disagree constructively.
Do
- Be civil. Respect the person, even when you disagree with their ideas.
- Listen. Acknowledge what others say before you respond. Engagement with counterarguments is at the heart of good debate.
- Stay on topic. Keep the conversation focused on the debate topic and the arguments.
- Argue with ideas. Challenge positions and logic, not the person. We’re here to practice, not to win at all costs.
Don’t
- Personal attacks, insults, or name‑calling. Disagree with the argument, not the person.
- Hate, harassment, or threats. This includes slurs, discrimination, or anything that targets people based on identity or that threatens harm.
- Spam or abuse. No flooding, off-topic rants, or using the app to waste resources or disrupt others.
- Impersonation. Don’t pretend to be someone else.
Views and Facts
Views and claims are your own; for important facts, verify with independent sources. Assumptions does not fact-check what you or the AI say. We focus on civility, listening, and counterpoints. You are responsible for the accuracy of claims you make.
Consequences
If you break these guidelines, we may:
- Nudge or warn — e.g., the AI may redirect the conversation or conclude a debate.
- Restrict or suspend your account — for repeated or serious violations.
- Terminate your account — for severe or persistent abuse.
